Sitges is an annual film festival, which is considered to be the most influential and important in the world of fantasy cinema. This year the only anime film screened at the festival’s main “Officail Fantàstic” program was The Sky Crawlers. The Sky Crawlers won three separate awards, the Guarner Critic Award, the Best Original Soundtrack award and it also picked up the Best Motion Picture for a Youth Audience.
Although The Sky Crawlers was a financial disappointment in Japan, it’s been received well by critics world wide, and has been licensed for release in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Latin America by Sony Pictures. Nothing has currently been announced in the UK as of yet.
