Manga Entertainment recently confirmed via their Twitter account that they have obtained the rights to release Dance in the Vampire Bund in the UK at some point this year.
At the present time no details are known regarding the release, in the UK. As soon as information comes to light, we will let you all know.
However, Funimation are the license holders in the USA and they’ve confirmed that Dance in the Vampire Bund will be available in both DVD and Blu-Ray and will be out in the Summer.
If we are truly to expect Vampire Bund this year, we may have a simultaneous release or one in late Autumn. As it’s a 12 episode series there is a decent possibility of seeing a Blu-Ray release.
Seeing as this is a short series and there’s a fair potential for good sales on the highstreet, a Blu-Ray is a fairly likely possibility in my opinion.

Funimation, the North American anime distributor, recently posted a dubbed “test episode” of Sgt. Frog on their YouTube channel. According to the notes Funimation have just started work on the video and want some input. What Funimation actually say is the following:
Sgt. Frog Needs You! We are beginning work on Sgt. Frog, and we need your input. Watch the test episode and add your comments. Let us know what you think!
Sgt Frog is a popular anime that’s been around for many years in Japan, it’s about frog-like aliens who come to invade the Earth, but end up stranded, befriending the locals and defending the Earth from other invasions.
As of publishing this news post, the video has 372 comments, and most seem to be indicating that rewriting the script of any show is a terrible idea.
It’s a very rare thing for a company to ask for such direct input from the fans, and this is one of the first time’s it’s happened in the West. Of course, this is unlikely to follow in the UK as it’s rare for a series to be re-dubbed with English voice actors.

Funimation, the US anime and manga publisher has an official YouTube channel, and this channel is now listing the first episode of Shikabane Hime for next week’s schedule. This series only recently premièred in Japan, and although this series has been listed on YouTube, it doesn’t guarantee an impending license for the USA. In the past Funimation have worked on behalf of Gainax, the anime studio creating the series.
This is yet more digitial distribution news coming from the States, and the UK market seems to be slow to adopt. The saga continues…

It’s been announced today that Funimation in the USA are going to be offering Witchblade on i-Tunes. The first episode is going to be screening for free until the 26th October. This echos what they did a few months ago when the entire episode was available on the gaming website, IGN.
The next volume, volume 6 of Witchblade will be available to purchase in the UK as of the 1st December, 2008.
This move has not be echoed by any of the UK distributers as of yet, but with this becoming a more common way of anime’s being advertised, we may see it yet.

Yesterday it was announced that Manga Entertainment have teamed up in the United Kingdom, and Manga Entertainment will be able to market, sell and distribute various titles from Funimation’s library.
Just a few of the titles licensed to Manga Entertainment are “Claymore,” “Negima Season 2,” “Darker Than Black,” “Ghost Hunt”, “Jyu Oh Sei”, “Ouran High School Host Club,” “Sasami,” “My Santa,” “Save Me Lollipop,” Baldr Force EXE”, and “xxxHOLiC,” with the first releases set for later this month and November.
“Our sales and marketing expertise, coupled with Funimation’s strong lineup of titles, convinced both companies that these could be some of the best selling new franchises of 2009 in the UK,” said Colin Lomax, Managing Director, Anchor Bay Entertainment UK/Manga Entertainment, a Starz Media company.
This is great news for Manga, but it must be a disappointment for MVM.
