The IT Crowd is a series about two socially dysfunctional IT professionals, who work for the fictitious Reynholm Industries, very happily for many years. Answering phones with the IT mantra: “Have you turned it off and on again?”, or just not answering it at all. Although located in the basement, Roy and Moss were happy at the bottom of the company ladder until a new manager turns up – Jen. Jen has managed to blag her way into the job and knows nothing about the geek and otaku culture. It’s the perfect show for people who work in an office, with IT or enjoy the geek life. Graced with the presence of the legendary Noel Fielding, as the emotional goth: Richmond, the IT Crowd is moving from strength to strength.
In the third series the director of the show Graham Linehan asked for fans of the show to continue to try and evolve the IT office from geek-chic to geek-heaven. Where would any geek, otaku or IT fan be without anime and manga? In the third series, due to start this November on Channel 4, many different manga titles from TOKYOPOP UK will be making the occasional appearance. The two manga currently confirmed to be seen in the office are titles such as Sgt Frog and Devil May Cry. So keep your eye out for these titles and various others dotted around the office.

Today it has been annoyed by TOKYOPOP UK that they will be taking part in an exhibition at Durham Univeristy from the 4th September until the 21st December, 2008. This exhibition is part of the Oriental Museum, which displays various artifacts and bits and pieces of oriental culture across time.
As TOKYOPOP are arguably the largest UK publishers of manga, they have been included in part of this exhibition, where manga is taking a huge part. As manga is part of the Japanese culture, and is slowly becoming part of UK culture, it’s prudent for TOKYOPOP and manga to appear at this highly regarded museum.

Tokyopop UK today announced that they had great success at London MCM Expo this year. Along with selling out of every edition of Dramacon Ultimate Edition that was with them over the weekend, the manga signing session ran over time by two hours. This was due to the sheer level of fans who wanted to get their favourite mangas signed by the author of Dramacon, Russian born Svetlana Chmakova .
Along with the sheer level of people showing up to get their manga signed, Tokyopop also gave away the must have gaming machine, the Nintendo Wii to one lucky fan. Darren De Doncker was that lucky fan, who just happened to pick up a copy of Chibi Vampire Volume 1 that had been marked in a particular way. So compeltely at random, he managed to win himself a Wii by just turning up!
Along with this great news, the UK based anime magazine NEO announced the results of their annual “Best Of” awards, and Tokoypop UK won the “Best Manga” award, which was for Tatsuhiko Takimoto’s Welcome to the NHK, and they also won the award of “Best Ditributor” as well! So we’ll be seeing Tokyopop in NEO yet again.
Below are a couple of the photos of that lucky Wii winner along with a Cosplayer and just how much manga Tokyopop brought along with them!

Earlier on in the year, TOKYOPOP Germany sent a long cease and desist letter to many websites that were illegally hosting material on their sites, normally called scanlations. Now this list quickly become public, and of the 230 title list, only 27 titles have not been released in America, Germany or the UK. This list has been very good at predicting soon to be announced titles, and after cross checking them with our Release Schedule page, where we have every announced title into 2009 by TOKYOPOP listed, none of them are there.
A few titles sparked my personal interest, such as Baroque which was recently released on the PS2 and the Nintendo Wii by Rising Star Games, the list is as follows:
- .hack//Alcor
- Acony
- Akuma to Dolce
- Amatsuki
- Ashita no Yoichi!
- Baroque
- Carat!
- Eensy Weensy Monster
- Far East
- Ga-rei
- Hana to Akuma
- Harlem Beat wa Toaki made
- HaruHana
- High School of the Dead
- Kiss and Never Cry
- Koori no Mamono no Monogatari
- Mamotte! Lollipop
- Metal Heart
- Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam
- Saiunkoku Monogatari
- Saiyuki Gaiden
- Seikon no Qwaser
- The Rose of Versailles
- Tokyo Underground
- Yamada Taro Monogatari
- Yasashii Ryuu no Koroshikata
- Yorozuya Toukaido Honpo
This may be a good teller as to what’s coming soon, it may not be.

Again not a UK based story, but it’s interesting nevertheless. It’s been noticed by a few bloggers as of late that Amazon.com have updated their TOKYOPOP listings for Summer 2009, and a few of these updates seem to be licenses that haven’t been formally announced. This isn’t unusual for Amazon, as they updated about The Legend of Zelda Manga from Viz Kids before Viz made the announcement.
KimiKiss (Vol. 01)
Takeru: Opera Susanoh Sword of the Devil (Vol. 01)
Nakashima Kazuki
Animal Academy: Hakobune Hakusho
Moyamu Fujino
Future Diary: Mirai Nikki (Vol. 01)
Esuno Sakae (?)
Game X Rush (Vol. 01)
Kusanagi Mizuho
Gorgeous Carat L’Esperanza
You Higuri
Hoshi no Witch: The Witch in the Artemis (Vol. 01)
Hara Yui (?)
Uwasa no Futari (BLU)
Matsumoto Temari
Whilst this is an Amazon listing, they’re normally fairly accurate in terms of content and not actual release dates. So I’d say it’s indicative of what’s to come in the States. Although what happens over there tends to follow in the UK, so I’d expect to see a few of those our way next year too.
